Flypaper Press took a fly-by-night concept and got lucky. Their loose ideas of blending contempo Asian culture with a character based in historical myth found form with artist Michael Avon Oeming in three issues in 1998. Between his rising star with Brian Michael Bendis on their "Powers" indie title, and the lucky casting of Chow Yun-Fat just as Crouching Tiger exploded, the series leapt to the screen.
